It's not attached to the battle pass," Shely adds.

The developers who developed Diablo 2 Resurrected have stressed that they don't want players "feel like they can pay to win" when the game releases in the coming year.

In an earlier Diablo 2 Resurrected livestream(opens in new tab) Game director Joe Shely, along with vice-game director Joesph Pipiora and community manager Adam Fletcher gave fans an update on everything Diablo 2 Resurrected, as well as revealing the process before the game's launch in the summer of next year.

During the livestream The trio also discussed how to play the Diablo 2 Resurrected battle pass (around the 39:15 mark in the video below) and the game's upcoming seasons. "It's very important to us that we balance what you'd expect to find on the battlefield pass" Piepiora stated, "the way that they're challenging but are also very fair, we don't want to create any conditions where players feel like they can pay to win. "To make a clear distinction between the battle pass and the seasons in Diablo 2 Resurrected Piepiora stated that "the season's story is the same an integral part of Diablo 2 Resurrected, in the same manner as you did when you played Diablo 3." The chapter-based mechanic offers players many objectives as they progress through the season and will allow players to earn rewards within the game in exchange for the characters they play. "All of the seasonal content is absolutely free. It's not attached to the battle pass," Shely adds.

To eliminate any confusion, Shely explained that, in the event that Diablo 2 Resurrected launches on June 6 2023, the game will not start immediately with season one. "Season one will start a few several weeks after the release of the game. And at the time that season one starts everyone will start at the same time, all players will be on an equal starting point," the developer said. The competitive elements of Diablo 2 Resurrected (e.g. : leader boards) are likely to be featured in the next season, so those who don't pay for early access will not have to worry about any unfairness.

"Our big season updates are all completely free. They're packed with new progression mechanics, brand new monsters to take on, adventures, new quests and even content to consume," Piepiora addsthat "there's plenty to anticipate and everything comes with the cost of the box game you've bought."

It looked sexy. While playing the beta of the game this weekend, I was dismayed to learn that the game's skill tree is no longer that sick-ass literal tree.

In contrast, Diablo 2 Resurrected players can anticipate a more conventional video game menu when the action-RPG releases next year. The skill tree is now an illustrative tree with nodes and straight connective lines and branches overflowing with skills and modifiers. It's now like the outline of a stone. The players can move across the screen of skills using the mouse or an analog stick, spending skill points earned through leveling up.

This is a glimpse of the latest design of Diablo 2 Resurrected's skills tree for Barbarian class: The change from the sick-ass ancient hell tree to lines and icons is totally fine. The previous version of this tree revealed during the quarterly update in September 2020, looked quite grotesque, but it was not all that practical. The tree presented at the time was defined as "pre-alpha," "in development content" and "NOT FINAL."

It was at least the second version that the skill tree created specially for Diablo 2 Resurrected; Blizzard showed an earlier version back in the year 2019 and it was revealed at BlizzCon.Despite the visual changes the more easily-read skill tree is exactly what a game like Diablo 2 Resurrected needs. There are a myriad of abilities and skills players can gain over the course of the initial 50 levels, all of which are available to try out through either acquiring the ability itself and then respeccing, or by acquiring an item of equipment that is equipped with a skill to it.
