スカイライン (SKYLINE)初代 ALSI型

(1957年)

1957年4 月富士精密工業（当時）より発売されたALSI-1型がスカイラインの初代となる。当時の日本における小型乗用車規格に合わせ、当初は1500ccでの発売となった。グレードはスタンダード（ALSIS-1型）とデラックス（ALSID-1型）の2種類。ボディスタイルはプリンスの自社オリジナルで、アメリカ資本の欧州車を思わせるボリューム感のあるデザインだったが、ヨーロッパのモーターショーでは同時期発表の中型セダンであるシムカ・アリアーヌからのデザイン盗用を疑われたこともある。

構造面は、やや旧弊化した在来プリンス車から完全に一新され、低床バックボーン・トレー式シャーシを持つセミ・モノコック構造となった。前輪は前年のプリンスで既に採用されていたダブルウィッシュボーン独立懸架、後輪は日本最初のド・ディオンアクスルを採用し、先進性をアピールした。搭載するエンジンは直列4気筒OHV・1484ccのGA30型で、プジョー系の設計の発展形であるプリンス在来型エンジンの改良であるが、60psの出力は、競合するトヨタや日産の同クラス車を上回るものであった。カタログスペックでは当時の日本製1500cc車最速の最高速度125km/hを称した。

他の国産車に先駆け、グリスアップの不要な無給脂シャーシを採用し、メンテナンスフリーをうたったことも重要である。
