The bureau of standards of India (BIS) is the national body responsible for product certification. It is the only product certification body in India and was formally established in 1987 to replace the Indian standards institute, established in 1946.

Products certified by BIS will be labeled with ISI label. This label has a broad influence in India and surrounding countries. Once the product is marked "ISI logo", it means that it meets relevant Indian standards and consumers can buy it with confidence.

For more than 40 years, the "ISI logo" has been a symbol of quality in India and its neighbors.
