Explain the gas assisted injection moulding process
The gas assist molding was first started in 1976 and gradually put in practice in the 1990s. It is a process of injecting, holding and cooling by inflating high-pressure inert gas into the melted plastic to formula a hollow section and push the molten material forward.

Although it existing a certain degree of difficulty, the gas assist molding has incomparable advantage in some areas. Now, it’s widely adopted in the automotive, home appliance, household and houseware industries.

The Advantages Of Gas Assist Injection Molding:
Save the plastic material and lighten the product.

Shorten the cycle time, improve the productivity.

Reduce the internal stress of product.

Solve the shrinkage issue on surface Lower in-mold pressure, reduce the press lock force requirement for injection machine.

Simplify the mould structure and enhance the design freedom in some cases.

Jeward Mould has rich experience in manufacturing gas assist molding chair mould. We offer our customers an one-stop solution, including customizing the Nitrogen Generation, high Pressure Nitrogen PistonCompressor and Nitrogen controller and other auxiliary equipment.

CHALLENGES
The length of air channel for the front and back chair legs are different from each other. In order to assure the product’s appearance, the input nozzle could only place on the bottom of the chair legs. So, there are many difficulties in the air channel arrangement and calculation.

ENGINEERING & TECHNOLOGY
JewardMould's engineer team has good understanding of gas assist mould design and rich pratical experience of gas assist technology and equipment adjustment.

SOLUTION & RESULTS
With the simulation of the gas assist molding process by Moldflow/MPI, we optimized the mould design. Furthermore, we made reasonable adjustment after the mold testing period. Finally, our products reduced the weight by 20% and the cooling time by 30%, which was up to the expectation.

FAQS ABOUT GAS ASSIST INJECTION MOLDING
Q
Why we use nitrogen for the gas assist molding?
-
A
Since the high-pressure gas must be injected into the product during the plastic molding process, it’s necessary to use the inert gas to prevent the oxidation reaction. The nitrogen is the safest and the most economic inert gas in the industry area.

A complete gas assist system consists of the nitrogen generator, pressurized equipment and gas assist control. The gas assist control is the key to control the gas pressure and the two essential parameters are gas injecting time (second) and gas injection pressure (MPa).

Q
How much pressure should be used in gas assist molding system?
The gas pressure could be up to 35MPa, in some special condition, it could reach 70MPa. It usually uses nitrogen with more than 98% purity. Due to the high pressure, all the tubes and connections need to be specialized.
