When building an aquarium for the first time, it is recommended to choose plants that are durable and have low maintenance costs. Choose green leaves for aquatic plants. Because they usually don't need direct sunlight. Too much sunlight may cause excessive algae growth, which will negatively affect the aquarium environment (such as requiring more maintenance and cleaning.)
Freshwater-grown aquariums create a more attractive, natural and healthier environment for aquatic life. Unfortunately, many freshwater enthusiasts avoid planting settings because of the additional cost and effort they believe. However, there are many freshwater plants that have very low light requirements in order to thrive. You can use these species to enjoy all the benefits of freshwater aquarium cultivation, but the cost is very low.
Regardless of lighting requirements, all plants should receive 10-12 hours of full-spectrum lighting every day. "Low illumination" refers only to the wattage required to maintain plant health, not the amount of time the lighting is used each day. Low-light plants are those that only need 1-2 watts per gallon to survive. Any lamp that requires 3 watts or more is considered to require moderate lighting, while any lamp that requires 4 watts or more per gallon is generally considered to have high lighting requirements. Two plants with relatively low lighting requirements are Java Fern and Cryptocoryne.

Java Fern (Microsorum Pteropus) is an attractive addition to freshwater planting aquariums. They are ideal for growing aquariums, but also for a child or large South American fish systems. Because it is amphibious, it will be partially or completely submerged. Java Ferns will thrive in low-light aquariums with alkalinity of 3-4 dKH and a pH of 6.0 to 7.5. If there is enough space in the aquarium, they can be grown individually or in groups. Javan ferns will reach a maximum height of about 8 inches tall, it is creeping, with green rhizomes.
Cryptocoryne (Cryptocoryne wendtii), also known as Wendt's Cryptocoryne, is commercially available in a variety of colors, including green, olive green, and reddish-brown leaves. The size, shape, and color of leaves vary greatly; it depends largely on the amount of light they receive. Cryptocoryne requires stable water conditions to prevent stem and leaf rot. Regular trimming and thinning will maintain the best condition. For best results, use Cryptocoryne as a separate plant. They can also be planted in groups with good results. If there are many varieties of plants, all variants will become higher and narrower.
Both Java Fern and Cryptocoryne respond well to supplementation and fertilization substrates. Use Seachem Flourish (a comprehensive plant supplement containing essential trace elements, vitamins, and amino acids) to promote these two species to stimulate the healthy growth of freshwater aquarium plants. Growing mineral-rich substrates such as Eco-Complete, including live heterotrophic bacteria, converts fish waste into natural food for plants.
With minimal lighting and proper supplementation, you can enjoy a healthy planted aquarium without destroying the ecology of the entire tank.
