（声）命の重さ問う臓器移植論議を

私は13年前、交通事故で9歳の息子を19日間の脳死状態の末に亡くしました。頭を強く打ち、意識はありませんでした。しかし心臓は動いているし、脈もあり血圧も正常です。体も温かいのです。
朝もお昼も元気だった息子の死に直面した夕刻のその時「助かる見込みはないから心臓を病気で苦しむ人にあげなさい」と言われても、元気に動いている心臓を誰とも分からぬ人にあげることなどできません。パニックの時に移植を誘導され、あげてしまっていたら、一生、後悔と自責の念に悩まされ続けたでしょう。
奇跡でも起きないと助からぬ命でも、心臓が止まり、冷たくならないと、死と認めることはできません。でも、時間の経過と共に、次第に死を受け入れざるを得なくなるのです。そして臓器移植となれば美談として報道されますが、提供者は隠されます。
助かった命の陰には尊い命の犠牲があります。同じ大切な命です。病気の人を救いたい気持ちは、事故に遭った側も同じです。人工心臓など新しい医療の進歩を願うと同時に、臓器移植法の改正は論議を尽くして慎重な判断を導いて頂きたいと思います。
