スプリンタートレノ (SPRINTER TRUENO)AE110/AE111型

(1995年)

1995年6月にモデルチェンジし、AE11#型が登場。BZ系グレードには通称「黒ヘッド」と呼ばれる4A-GE型エンジンを搭載する。このモデルからエアフロメーターは省かれ、Dジェトロ方式となる。4A-GE型エンジンの最高出力は165psに向上。テレビCMには武田真治が「オレのトレノ」のキャッチコピーで出演した。また、プラットフォームは変更されず、スーパーストラットサスペンションも先代より引き継がれたが、ボディは先代に比べ70kg軽量化され、走りのパフォーマンスは大幅に向上した。また、ライバルとされるEK9シビックタイプRが補強を行っても敵わないボディ剛性を持つ。

このモデルからスーパーチャージャー付のグレードは廃止され、グレード構成もそれまでのGT系に代わり、新たにBZ系と呼ばれるようになった。これまでの「GT APEX」に代わる装備を充実したグレードはBZ-Gとなり、かつての「GT-V」のように装備を抑え、走行性能を重視したグレードはBZ-Vとなる。スーパーストラットサスペンションはBZ-Vに標準、BZ-Gにオプション装備される。また、ハイメカツインカムを搭載するベーシックグレードも4A- FE型1600ccエンジンを搭載するモデルはXZ、5A-FE型1500ccエンジンを搭載するモデルはFZ（型式名はAE110）を名乗った。

1997年のマイナーチェンジでは、初の自社開発となる6速MTが採用されたが、同時に衝突安全ボディ「GOA」の採用により車両重量がモデルチェンジ前と比べ若干重くなり、軽快感はやや失われた。グレード名称も一部変更され、BZ-G スーパーストラットサスペンション装着車がBZ-Rとなり、それまでのBZ-VはBZ-R V仕様と改称された。

AE111型

通称は「トイイチ」「ピンゾロ」。

  • XZ ・・・ 1600cc、4A-FE型エンジン搭載。最高出力は115ps/6000rpm。(後期型は110ps/5800rpm)
  • BZ-G ・・・ 1600cc、4A-GE型エンジン搭載。最高出力は165ps/7800rpm。

1995年～1997年まで発売されたグレード

  • BZ-V ・・・ 1600cc、4A-GE型エンジン搭載。最高出力は165ps/7800rpm。
  • BZ-G スーパーストラットサスペンション装着車 ・・・ 1600cc、4A-GE型エンジン搭載。最高出力は165ps/7800rpm。

1997年より発売されたグレード

  • BZ-R V仕様 ・・・ 1600cc、4A-GE型エンジン搭載。最高出力は165ps/7800rpm。
  • BZ-R ・・・ 1600cc、4A-GE型エンジン搭載。最高出力は165ps/7800rpm。スーパーストラットサスペンション標準
  • マイナーチェンジによりフロント、リアのランプがブラックアウト化された。

AE110型

通称は「ヒャクトオ」、「イチイチマル」。

  • FZ ・・・ 1498cc、5A-FE型エンジン搭載。最高出力は100ps/5600rpm。

折からのクーペ販売不振のため、2000年8月、このモデルをもってトレノの生産・販売は終了した。2009年に登場する予定のスバルとの共同開発による低価格スポーツカーが実質的な後継車となる。
