ヴィクター・バーギン「動物園78」

この作品は写真とテクストで構成したディプティック（2舞い降り画像）8点からなる作品を発表した。ベルリンの旧西側地区は街の中心に動物園があり、それが恒常的監視にさらされていたこの町の象徴ともなっていた。また、ポルノ・ショップの覗き部屋といったものが密集していたもの。動物園近くの鉄道の駅周辺だった。窃視愛好者のようにディプティックは覗いてみるものだが、そうすると左側のパネルに、動物のように四つん這いになった裸の若い女性が見える。このイメージに重ねて、ミシェル・フーコーが制度による管理について探究した著書「監視と処罰」のテクストが引用されている。そこでは円形刑務所の仕組みが説明されている。見張りの看守は中央塔からすべての受刑者を見ることができるが、受刑者側からは見張りが見えない。学校から職場、また刑務所へと、このような監視を行うことで、現代社会の成員の行動は保証されているのだ。ディプティックの右のパネルには、花柄の壁紙とブランデンブルグ門の感傷的な絵が配置されている。
