アースワーク第一世代が終わると、フェミニズム意識の強い大地と女体とを結びつけるアーティストが出現し始めた。彼女らは女性解放を直接環境に結びつけ、女神崇拝の宗教と歴史的につながりのあるサイトで、儀式的なあるいは全員参加型のパフォーマンスを行った。このようにして彼女らは、男性のランドアーティストらが行ったよりもはるかに強い、自我意識を持った空間と性の関係を打ち立てた。
エデルソンは、1970年代の一部の女性アーティストに見られる、神話と夢、それに精神的イメージを自然と地の女神に関係した儀式の中で結びつけよう、という衝動の代表例を示した。彼女の作品のうちに示されているものは、このような異教的な自然崇拝は、従来の宗教にも合理主義にも取って代わる第三の自然界と人間との結びつきを与えてくれるという信念だった。エデルソンは東ヨーロッパやスカンジナビアなどの遠隔の地に旅して、超自然の存在と強力に結びついたサイトを探し求めた。
彼女がユーゴスラビアの洞窟で行ったパフォーマンス「see for yourself:pilgrimage to a neolithic cave」は、詠唱、火の輪、曼荼羅、女体といった伝統的な儀式の手法を使って、呼び起こしている女性の世界の普遍的特徴を際立たせている。本物であるという追憶に満ちた主張や、集団的無意識というユング的概念へのアピールはともかく、このような初期のフェミニストによるプロジェクトは、分離主義の空間や異なる地勢を明らかにする上で重要なステップだった。
