ヨーゼフ・ボイス「7000oaks」

ドクメンタ7でボイスは、カッセル市中に7000本のカシノキを植えて、時とともに成長する環境という幅広いコンセプトを表した。7000本の木は玄武岩の位置標識の隣に植えられた。ボイスは、このプロジェクトは「アートの新しいコンセプトに向けての人間の能力の進化を、自然との対話の形で表している」と言った。最初の一本は1982年に植えられ、最後の一本は1987年、ボイスの死の18ヶ月後に、息子のヴェンツェル・ボイスの手によって、ドクメンタ8の閉会式で植えられた。「これらのオークを植えることは、生息圏の見地、つまり環境や物事の見地から見て必要なだけでなく、環境意識を高めるという意味で、それもこれから先ぐんぐん高める上で必要だと思う。なぜそうなるかと言えば、木を植えるということをやめることは決してないからだ」
1982年のドクメンタ7のオープニングから1987年のドクメンタ8までの間に、うず高く積もった玄武岩の位置標識の山は次第に低くなっていき、ついに最後の一本が1987年6月8日に植えられた
ディア芸術センターが、カッセル市で始まった（7000oaks)を資金援助した。このプロジェクトはニューヨークでも続け、数種類の木を使い、そのどれもに玄武岩の位置標識を組み合わせた。この作品は社会的彫刻という、ボイスの描く理想郷を具現したもので、人に意識革命を起こさせようとしている。このような植樹のイベントを行ったのは、すべての生命、社会、環境体系全体が変化することを強調したかったからだ。
