ハンス・ハーケ「rhine-water purification plant」

クレーフェルトのハウスランゲ美術館でのインスタレーション。ハーケは、クレーフェルトの汚染処理工場から汚染されたライン川の水を手に入れた。この水を大型のガラス瓶に入れてギャラリーの床に置き、ポンプで高い位置に置いたアクリル製水槽にくみ上げた。これに化学薬品を投入して汚染物質を沈殿させた。沈降の過程は、2番目のアクリル容器でも続いた。そこからある程度浄化された水が、木炭と砂の濾過器通って最後には、金魚の入った大きな水槽に流れ落ちた。溢れた水はホースを使って庭に流し、そこから地面にしみ込んで地下水と混じった。研究室の実験にも似たこの作品はライン川が工場や家庭排水の遺棄に使われている、クレーフェルトにおける水質汚染という特定の環境問題を取り上げている。金魚の入った水槽は、美術館の裏手の木立が見えるところに置かれ、一方は生命を維持し、他方は崩壊の危機に瀬している、2つの環境の間に対話を築いている。
